Maintenance Overview
To ensure maximum performance and availability from Chat Service, it is recommended
that you set up and follow a regular maintenance program. The goal of regular
maintenance is to identify and correct potential problems before they become real
problems that affect your chat users.
The following maintenance functions make up the Chat Service maintenance program:
- Backing Up and Restoring Your
Configuration: Explains how to create a file that allows
you to restore a server's Chat Service configuration or to quickly propagate a
configuration to other servers on a chat network.
- Monitoring Chat Service: Explains the benefits of using Performance
counters to monitor performance data for unusual values.
- Logging Chat Service Events: Explains how to set up a Performance Monitor
log to record specific events on a chat server.
- Viewing Messages with Event
Viewer: Explains how to use the Windows NT Event Viewer
to view all server messages or only those messages that are generated by Chat Service
events.
