Setting Up a Large Online Event

Internet service providers (ISPs) with a large number of subscribers are often presented with the opportunity to stage an online event, such as a business conference or a live chat with one or more celebrities.

Goal

To set up a large online event in which chat users around the world can participate.

Components

Microsoft® Windows NT® Server version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Exchange Chat Service version 5.5 Service Pack 1 installed on the server.

Environment

A Windows NT network.

Configuration

  1. Start the Chat Service Manager utility.
  2. From Microsoft Exchange Chat Service in the left pane, select the chat server where you want to stage the event. If you need to connect to the server, see To Connect to the Server Where You Want to Set Up the Event.
  3. Set up the speakers' channel.
  4. Set up the discussion channel.
  5. Give the Host password to the event speakers.

Result

You successfully host and control a large online event from a single chat server.
