To Set Up the Speakers' Channel
After you connect to the server, set up a channel for the event speakers.
- Select Channels (Rooms) in the left pane.
- From the Action menu, choose New, and then choose Create channel.
- Type the name of the channel in the Name box, and then
choose OK. Be sure to precede the channel name with a valid
channel prefix (#, &, %#, or %&).
- From the Access property sheet, type a password in the Host box. Each speaker must use the Host password to join the channel.
- From the Settings property sheet, set Member
limit to the number of speakers and chat users that are expected to
participate.
- From the Modes property sheet, choose one of the following speaking restrictions for the event participants:
Moderated A chat user joining a moderated channel cannot post messages
to the channel but can see messages posted by the speakers. However, a speaker, as a
channel host, can use the following command to grant speaking permission to a specific
user:
/MODE +v channel_name nickname
Moderated channels are often used for small chat events.
Auditorium A chat user joining an auditorium channel can
see only messages posted by the speakers. Speakers, however, can see and send messages
to any event participant in the
channel. Only the speakers, as channel hosts, are notified when event participants
join or leave an auditorium channel.
Auditorium channels are often used for large chat events.
- Choose OK.
