Hosts

Hosts are the NNTP computers that your newsfeed provider supplies. Typically, you receive newsfeeds from an inbound host computer and send newsgroup postings to an outbound host. The inbound and outbound host computers can be the same.

Getting to the Hosts property page

  1. In the Administrator window, choose a site, and then choose Connections.
  2. Double-click your newsfeed.

Connecting to the Remote USENET Site

If your server initiates connections, you must connect your newsfeed to the remote USENET site by specifying its USENET site name. Your Internet News Service can either push messages outbound to the remote USENET site or accept inbound push messages from this site.

  1. Select the Hosts tab.
  2. In the Remote USENET site name box, type the name of the remote USENET site that is providing your newsfeed.

Specifying the Remote USENET Host

You must specify the IP address of the USENET host computer that is providing your newsfeed. For connections to computers on the Internet, the name must be the IP address or the FDQN of the host computer, such as myserver.mycompany.com.

  1. Select the Hosts tab.
  2. In the Remote USENET host name box, type the FDQN or IP address of the remote USENET host that is providing your newsfeed.
  3. Choose Add.

Setting Up Additional Inbound Hosts

You can set additional host names or IP addresses to use for inbound connections to receive newsgroups. This option is necessary only for accepting push feeds from a newsfeed provider that uses multiple hosts.

  1. Select the Hosts tab.
  2. In the Remote host name box, type the FDQN or IP addresses of the remote USENET hosts that are providing your newsfeed.

Removing an Inbound Connection

When you no longer want to receive newsgroups from a host computer, you can remove the host from the list of hosts supported for inbound connections.

  1. Select the Hosts tab.
  2. In the Remote host name box, select the host name or IP address you want to remove.
  3. Choose Remove.
