Local Postoffice Properties

Use the Local Postoffice property page to view or modify the network and postoffice name of the Microsoft Mail Connector. These names are used to identify the Microsoft Exchange Server externally for routing services between Microsoft Mail postoffices and Microsoft Exchange Server. The default names are determined during installation from the Microsoft Exchange Server organization and site names. In a typical configuration, you would not change these names.

Getting to the Local Postoffice property page

  1. In the Administrator window, choose the site where the Microsoft Mail Connector is installed, and choose Connections.
  2. Double-click MS Mail Connector.
  3. Select the Local Postoffice tab.

Modifying Local Postoffice Name and Password

Use the Local Postoffice property page to change the network name and postoffice name for the Connector postoffice. You can also assign or reassign an existing password for the Connector postoffice. For example, you may want to group a set of postoffices by a single network name. You can change a Connector postoffice name in the Local Postoffice property page and then regenerate the change to represent the new Microsoft Mail address for the postoffice.

The Connector interchange and all instances of the Microsoft Mail Connector (AppleTalk) MTA read the network and postoffice name at startup. If you want the changes you have made to take effect immediately, stop and then restart the Connector interchange and Microsoft Mail Connector (AppleTalk) MTAs.

Warning   Any change to network or postoffice names will cause regeneration of the Microsoft Mail address for the Connector postoffice. Changing the network or postoffice name after message transfer has started will cause messages that were in transit during the change to be returned. You must modify the external listing for the Connector postoffice for all Microsoft Mail postoffices connected directly or indirectly to the connector. You must also stop, reconfigure, and restart all Microsoft Mail gateways and occurrences of the External program.

  1. Select the Local Postoffice tab.
  2. In the Network box, type a network name.
  3. In the Postoffice box, type a postoffice name.
  4. In the Sign-on Password box, type a password.
  5. Choose Regenerate.
