A Macintosh-accessible volume is a directory on the computer running Windows NT Server that is made available to Macintosh clients. The directory that contains the Microsoft Mail Connector postoffice must be created as a Macintosh-accessible volume. Once the volume has been created, MS Mail (AppleTalk) servers can view and exchange files with the connector. You can create a Macintosh-accessible volume from the MacFile menu in File Manager.
A Macintosh-accessible volume must be created on the Microsoft Exchange Server computer for the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server to connect to the volume. Before creating a Macintosh-accessible volume, verify that Windows NT Services for Macintosh is installed on the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Volume Name |
The name used when connecting to Microsoft Exchange Server from the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server. MAILDATA is the default. |
Password | Used by the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server when connecting to this volume. If you want message transfer to start automatically when the Macintosh computer starts or restarts, do not enter a volume password. |
Guests can use this volume | Clear the guest access to the Connector postoffice volume to preserve message security. This option is selected by default. |
User Limit | Select Allow, and type or select a number to limit simultaneous connections to this volume. The default is Unlimited. |
Permissions for a volume are equivalent to Macintosh file sharing, which specifies which users can use a volume or folder. You can grant permissions for a Windows NT Server user account, group, or both to connect to the volume from the Chooser. Sufficient permissions must be set for the MS Mail (AppleTalk) administrator to access the Microsoft Mail Connector volume. After the administrator has sufficient permissions, the volume can be viewed from the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server and configured for mail transfer.
