General Properties

Use the General property page to specify the name for this connector, the name of the server to connect to, the transport stack for this connector, the RAS phone book entry, and a message size limit.

Getting to the General property page

  1. In the Administrator window, choose Connections.
  2. Double-click the Dynamic RAS Connector to be modified.
  3. Select the General tab.

Specifying the Connector Name

Use the General property page to define a name for this Dynamic RAS Connector. The directory name cannot be changed once it is entered.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Type the directory name and the display name.

Option Description
Display name Type the name (up to 256 alphanumeric characters) that will be displayed in the Administrator window. This name is not case-sensitive.
Directory name Type an informative and descriptive name (up to 64 alphanumeric characters). This permanent name identifies the Dynamic RAS Connector in the directory and is used in event log messages. You can modify this name only when creating a new transport stack. This name is not case-sensitive.

Specifying the Name of the Remote Server

Use the General property page to specify the name of the remote server. The name of the remote server is specified on the General property page of the Message Transfer Agent object of the remote server.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Specify the remote server name. This field is case-sensitive.

Specifying the MTA Transport Stack

Use the General property page to specify the MTA transport stack for the Dynamic RAS Connector.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Select a RAS MTA transport stack from the list.

Specifying the Phone Book Entry

Use the General property page to specify the phone book entry for the remote server. The phone book entry is part of the Windows NT Server RAS software.

Note   In the configuration of the RAS phone book entry, if you choose to use the credentials of the logged on user, the RAS Connector uses the service account specified during setup. Therefore, the service account must have full Administrator permissions on the remote site. In addition, the credentials supplied by the remote system must be granted full Administrator permissions on the local system.

If you do not choose to use the credentials of the logged on user, the RAS Connector uses the values specified in the RAS Override property page.
  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Select the phone book entry or add a phone book entry for the remote server.

Option Description
Phone book entry The RAS phone book entry for the remote server.
RAS Phone Book Displays the RAS phone book.
Refresh List Refreshes the list of available phone book entries.

Specifying the Message Size

You can specify the size of messages transported through the Dynamic RAS Connector.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. In the Message size box, select an option. Selecting No limit transfers messages of any size. Selecting Maximum (K) lets you specify a number between 1 and 9,999,999 kilobytes (KB).
