Replicating Directory Information

The Microsoft Exchange Server directory provides information about an organization's resources and recipients. The ability to share up-to-date directory information between Microsoft Exchange Server sites is necessary to effectively administer your organization. Replicating directory information from one server in a site to other servers through your organization guarantees that information about all directory objects is current and accurate.

Duplicating information within directories through replication updates the directories of all Microsoft Exchange Server computers within a site and between sites with the same information. Within a site, directory replication is automatic. You can configure directory replication to occur automatically between sites.

Before setting up directory replication, verify that the Microsoft Exchange Server computers in the local and remote sites are installed and running correctly. Also, make sure you can exchange messages between sites and that you have started all the services required to run the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program.
