CHANGES TO THE 2007 MOPAREURONATIONALS

Hi folks, yes there are some changes to this year’s EuroNationals they are these: -

There will be NO FRIDAY NIGHT ORGANISED CRUISE. Owing to the behaviour of some club members and alike we have been told in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS NOT to frequent the Pub, The Priory this year. Our advice is “ just don’t go there”.

The Awards Ceremony for all the classified trophies will this year be split in two. The trophies for the NON RACE categories etc, will be awarded on Sunday afternoon. We expect this to happen probably after the Burn out Contest and before the Jet Car gets going. We have moved these, for two reasons. One to not have folks hanging around till 5 pm and two to get the awards presented in front of packed grandstands. The RACECAR AWARDS will take place at the Start Line as per usual at 5pm.

To race in the KOS, Ultimate KOS, SAMS, Race categories there will be NO NEED to Pre-enter, however, you can if you wish. Forms will need to be completed but these can be done at the show. The Burn Out Contest will also require a form to be completed. All forms can be obtained at the Merchandising Tent at the show. Once a form is completed you will be given a RACE NUMBER, you must have a number to race. This should be shown in the back window of your car. The same for the Burn out contest.

Should any folks wish to match race or grudge race at the show, such as Taz v Surrey Muscle etc, then they should be prepared to put up a Race Director, this person should liase with the Tower, and Tim Holmes, again a number will be required. Any MMA club members wishing to organise “ races” etc should go through the clubs very own Race Director, who will be responsible for organising, keeping the tower informed, collating times etc for the MMA. This info will then be passed onto Tim Holmes.

The show has grown to the point where we must have a more structured approach to the race categories, so that everyone is aware of whats going on, please help with the above requests.

Too bad they did away with the Fri night "festivities" Dave, I'm sure the liquid courage had something to do with it. :s002:

At Indianapolis, Indiana where the MoPar Nationals was once located or shown, they were told NOT to come back. The Police quoted as saying those MoPar People are as fanatical as the Harley Bikers, and simply didnt want their business. The MoPar Nats will never return to INDY. Cant say I blame them. :s024:

A lot of the guys were being stupid. Doing burnouts outside the pub.

That was bad enough but this two lane road had fast traffic on it approaching a "roundabout" junction just 100 yards further on.

Some of the cars were getting out of shape and crossing into the oncoming traffic lane. Others were making so much tyre smoke the traffic could not see for 100 yards and women with children were having to overtake into oncoming traffic totally blind.

The smoke was so bad last year that the fire brigade was called by a member of the public. The firemen were not to happy about that!

You dudes get pretty rowdy ehh Dave! Yeah thats plain stupid when the public is "involved". No need to scare people just trying to get somewhere. At INDY the MoPar fans got a "little" wild as well, alcohol was of course the "juice" of choice and the fans were a little rowdy to begin with. A volatile combo.

At least they are not stupid enough to drink and drive over here. Most of these guys were not even going into the Pub.

Myself I always made good use of the food menu and soft drinks. The food was great. A good start to the weekend where I would be living on food cooked on a little camping stove for the next couple of days.
It is a shame I will no longer be welcome because of guys with the mental age of 9 years showing off they ability to spin their rear wheels.

We all like a little tyre spin and growl of rubber as the wheels fight to get traction. :thumbsup:

But full blown static line-lock burnouts in the middle of a busy road is going WAY too far. Two chargers even did burnouts at the same time in the road while facing each other! :shock:

I have to say though, that as a whole, the weekend is not "rowdie" at all. It is safe for families and the like. But you have to think about where you pitch your tent. Or stay in a hotel. The partys go on until 3 or 4 am sometimes and if you are camped next to one you are not going to get a lot of sleep.

Sounds like a lot of fun Dave, BTW, I'm getting a little too old for such antics. :wink:

Plus over here, the police will make your life miserable if they catch you with any alcohol in your vehicle, let alone drunk behind the wheel. In the old days we would drink a few beers and chance it. Today it's pretty stupid really. I dont even drink anymore,(11 yrs), I just dont enjoy the "buzz" like I did when I was young and insane. If I do drink it's German White wine. :s002:

I am going to attempt to make it at the MoPar nats this year,(Columbus Ohio, aug 17), but I wont go if I have to go alone. My neighbor has a car trailer,(open), and we could trailer my Challenger to it. Then I could cruise Brice Road with all the other 5000 MoPars at 15 mph :roll:

Dave,

Can you tell me a bit more about entering the race part? Are there all kind of classes/indexes or is it more like a rwyb?

If there are classes, what should we fit in?
My buddy runs high 8's in his 3600lbs '70 roadrunner
And me, well hoping on very low 10's.

Pre entry or just come along and enter?

Officially it is a RWYB weekend for any type of car or race car.

If it is a street car just turn up. No need to pre-enter.

However we do take a note of the times of the cars if entered in one of our "classes" and see who went the fastest over the weekend.

Your cars will probably fit into King Of Street (KOS) or Ultimate KOS depending on how modified yours cars are and as long as they can be proved to be street legal.
You will need to show your drivers licences as well so don't forget to bring them.

I used to run my Challenger in "Original KOS" which is for basically stock cars with iron heads and normal induction (no NOS). We also have a "Stock Appearing" class (SAMS) for restored looking cars.

KOS I think is ally heads, superchargers, NOS etc. Ultimate KOS I think is tube frames and the like.

I will find out exactly what the rules are for you.

My buddys one... stock but improved chassis, stcok firewall, floors etc., minitubbed etc. only a fiber hood and lately fenders. Also n/a hemi

And mine, well just a stock chassis, minitubbed challenger with a n/a Hemi.

Mine could only fit in the Ultimate KOS then due the minitub and my buddy wouldn't fit any as his wipers don't work and some small stuff like that.

But we could rwyb then, no problem!

Well, my buds who I'm coming over with have never attend the nats before so we're not the ones who kept you awake. But we might do it too...

While...having fun and drinking to much (not the drivers) till 5am...warming up the 1150hp Hemi and 950hp B1 of my buddys in the morning...and so on... No, kidding, were not that bad :biggrin:

Anyway, we will take the generator along. Otherwise the freezer, cooler, and beertap won't work... :shock:

The minty green car?

That is an Austrailian Chrysler Valiant Charger 770. About '71 vintage buy the look of the headlights. Based on the A-body frame.

I used to have one myself as they were imported to the UK as a cheap rival to the Jensen Interceptor. All the UK ones were 318 powered.

The really hot version was the "Hemi Six Pack".

Now don't get too excited as the Oz hemi was actually a straight six (not the slant six you got in the USA) but it could be had with three 2bbl side draft Weber carbs. It turned the car into a 145mph screamer.

All this was nothing compared to last year. They were pairing up on the road and the traffic was a lot heavier.

You mean those other really small cars where "civilians" just trying to commute home to work ect..? That is pretty crazy. There was a "Pro-Mod" accident here in the states the other day at a show for kids, a driver lost control of his 2k H.P. machine and it lost control and plowed into the crowd killing four adults instantly. I cant imagine it getting any crazier than what I saw. And if it did, it's just plain unsafe. You wouldnt have a vid of last year would you?

gday dave the hemi six was available in the uk you guys got the only r/t with an auto that was made you didnt get any six packs but you did get a few 2bbl r/t s the e49 six pack could run 14.1 1/4 mine straight from factory which was pretty cool in 1971 for a six

The only big supermarket in that town is just along the road. So you get a lot of moms with kids going down there.

What the hell did they expect to happen? :disbelief:

Thought that was pretty sick of the camera person to film the dead and injured on the road too. So no sense of decency as well as no brains.

I didnt see the video. Horrible tragedy, 4 Adults killed and scores of children who will probably be affected for the remainder of their lives. I too dont know what the "deal" was but I could never even imagine firing something like that up around an unsecured area. :shock:

Ian, I love the shape of those cars. Would they beat a factory Holden V-8? Or the other GM or Ford car? The first Mad Max had a blown V-8 car in it. I always thought that was a MoPar but found out it wasnt. The Aussie Valiants rocked for a six!! :thumbsup:

No. The Max car was a Ford Falcon XB.

They only built about 9500 XB hardtops in total.

This is a quote from my (brutally honest) Scottish friend that owns one.

The XA/XB GT's has 351 Clevelands. Nominally the hp was 300, but it was probably less. The later XC's, like the Cobra, either came with 302C or 351C engine. These are late seventies cars (1978) hp was, I think, about 168 for the 351 and 148 for the 302, but that, as they say, is net hp, not gross.

They can be made pretty powerful. 300 to 350 rwhp is relatively easily attainable. The Australian's are refreshingly honest about their cars out puts and like quoting rwhp.
250-300hp seems like the standard medium build, 300-350hp is a bit more hardcore.

As Australia hung in with the Cleveland long after the Yanks went back to the Windsor, there are lots of good, honest tuning parts available. The later GT's (XA-XB) were more Grand Tourer cars as befits the GT name. The earlier XW/XY GT four doors were the real musclecars, more raw, and less soft, and by extension, a bit more lairy.

Bear in mind, you could also get four door XA and XB GT's (they are cheaper) and all XB GT's and XC Cobra's had four wheel disk brakes, so they handled and stopped much better than most cars of their day, with the possible exception of late seventies WS6 equipped Pontiac TransAms which were in a league of their own.
