Speaker Wiring

Postby spitfire9137 » 05 May 2004 1:39

Putting a workign radio in my 73 challenger I just bought. It appears that all the speaker wires run to the passenger side to a 6 wire plug, what plugs in here?

Could it be the stereo crossover?

Have a look at the wiring diagram for the stereo here;

I know this is 1970 stuff but it might be similar.

On the 3 speaker dash setup, the black wire coming from the radio, does it hook up the the blach wires running to the center and driver side speakers, I cant tell from the diagrams.

The black wire from the radio should go into a three wire connector. Pin one is violet, pin 2 is black, pin 3 is dark green. Pin 2 goes to center and left front speaker on a stereo with out rear speakers.

On a stereo with rear speakers the black wire still goes to a three pin connector pin 2 but feeds all three front spekers.

Good luck

Thank you nepatfn, the previous owner cut a bunch of wires under the dash, once I get around to restoring it completly I guess I'm gonna get a new wiring harness. I'll post pics of my car soon.
