Troubleshooting Overview
When you or your chat users have problems with Chat Service, follow the procedures
in this section. There are three basic troubleshooting procedures:
- Use Event Viewer to check for messages written by Chat
Service. If the service detects a problem or fails to start, it writes error messages
to the System log in Event Viewer.
- Use the PING program to verify network connectivity with
Chat Service. If the client cannot establish a network connection to the computer on
which the service is running, the client cannot participate in chats.
Note Some routers always block PING messages. Even if PING fails
to connect, try connecting to the server with Telnet.
- Use the Telnet program to verify that Chat Service is
running and available to chat clients. Telnet allows you to determine whether the
problem is with the client or with the service.
