Viewing Messages with Event Viewer

If you are having problems with Chat Service, check Event Viewer for error messages. Chat Service writes a message to the System log in Event Viewer each time the service starts and stops, an operator command is processed, or an error is detected.

Even if you are not currently having problems with the service, check Event Viewer periodically for error messages about potentially troublesome conditions you may have not yet noticed.

To view messages with Event Viewer

1. From the Start menu, choose Programs, choose Administrative Tools (Common), and then choose Event Viewer.
2. From the Log menu, choose System. The messages written by Chat Service display ChatSvc in the Source column.

You can make it easier to find Chat Service messages by filtering the messages in Event Viewer.

To view only Chat Service event messages

1. From the View menu in Event Viewer, choose Filter Events.
2. In the Source box, select ChatSvc.
