Channels (Rooms): Access Property Sheet

Use this property sheet to set member, owner, and host passwords and joining restrictions for a persistent channel. You can also limit access by associating a member account with the channel.

This property sheet contains the following options.

Option Description
Passwords

Allows you to create individual passwords for members, hosts, and owners that join the channel.

Member designates a keyword with which users can join the channel as a member. The member keyword is limited to 31 characters.

Host designates a keyword that members can use to join a channel with host permissions. The host keyword is limited to 31 characters.

Owner designates a keyword that members can use to join a channel with owner permissions. The owner keyword is limited to 31 characters.

Member account

Designates a member account that Chat Service uses to restrict or deny access to the channel. A member account can be associated with a Windows NT group, or it can contain one or more users that you designate. When you choose a member account, the Authenticated clients only check box is automatically selected, which forces the authentication of each account member.

You create a member account from Accounts under the chat server in the left pane. For more information, see Limiting Channel Access by Member Account.

Invitation only

Permits only invited users to join the channel.

Authenticated clients only

Permits only authenticated users to join the channel. When you choose a member account, Authenticated clients only is automatically selected, which forces the authentication of each account member.

Microsoft Internet Chat protocol clients only

Permits clients to join the channel only if they are using the Microsoft Internet Chat (MIC) protocol.

Important Server extensions running on a chat server that allows connections from MIC clients may not operate as expected.
