Creating an Extension with Visual C++

While server extensions are easy to build using Visual Basic, the extra boost of performance that C++ provides is worth the extra effort. The following checklist summarizes the steps needed to create a chat server extension in Microsoft® Visual C++® 5.0:

• Create a new "ATL COM AppWizard" project.
• Add a new ATL object.
• Edit your project's IDL file.
• Add the Chat Extensibility object model include files.
• Modify your extension's header file.
• Register your component with the Chat Administrator.
• Fill in the minimum requirements.

The following are examples of chat server extensions written in Visual C++:

• LogMonitor Sample: This extension monitors for chat users login/logout notifications.

• MsgFilter Sample: This extension monitors the text sent to a channel and filters all occurrences of any words it has defined in its filter list.
