Microsoft Chat Server Development Guide |
---|
The Chat Server Extensibility SDK includes the following features:
If you can write a COM component in your language, you can write a chat server extension. Extensions can be written in Microsoft® Visual Basic® 5.0, although for reasons of performance and component threading, C++ is recommended. For examples of extensions written in these languages, see Sample Extensions.
Extensions can dynamically specify what kind of messages to receive. Rather than monitoring all events, an extension can bind to just those that it needs. For example, a nickname registration extension might only need to bind to the OnNewUser and OnNickChanged event notifications. For more information, see Event Binding.
Canceling a message means that an extension can prevent the command from ever happening, not just react after it has happened. When an extension cancels a command, it can also communicate a reason for the failure to the user. For more information, see Canceling Events.
