General Properties

Use the General property page to specify a display name for the IMAP4 object and to enable or disable IMAP4 for the site or server.

Getting to the General property page

  1. In the Administrator window, choose a site or server, and then choose Protocols.
  2. Double-click IMAP4 (Mail) Site Defaults to configure site IMAP4 defaults, or IMAP4 (Mail) Settings to configure a server's IMAP4 settings.
  3. Select the General tab.

Defining a Display Name

Use the General property page to define the IMAP4 display name.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Type a display name.

Option Description
Display name A maximum of 256 alphanumeric characters, which can include spaces and special characters.
Directory name A name defined automatically during installation that cannot be changed.

Using the Site Defaults

Use the General property page on the IMAP4 server object to use the default values from the IMAP4 site object.

Note   This option is available only for IMAP4 properties in the server container.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Select or clear the Use site defaults for all properties check box. Select this check box to use the options you have set for permissions and message format.

Enabling or Disabling IMAP4

Use the General property page to enable or disable IMAP4 on the Microsoft Exchange Server computer or change the site default.

Note   It can take several minutes for the change to take effect.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Select or clear the Enable protocol check box.

Disabling Public Folder Listings for the Site or Server

Some IMAP4 clients exhibit poor performance when listing a large number of public folders. By default, Microsoft Exchange Server enables public folders to be listed for all clients. Clear the Include all public folders when a folder list is requested check box to disable listing public folders. Disabling this option prevents listing public folders in response to the IMAP4 LIST "" * command and improves performance for clients that have problems listing public folders.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Clear the Include all public folders when a folder list is requested check box.

Disabling Fast Message Retrieval

Some IMAP4 clients require Microsoft Exchange Server to report exact message sizes. By default, Microsoft Exchange Server increases the speed of message retrieval by approximating message sizes. Clear the Enable fast message retrieval check box to disable fast message retrieval to support e-mail clients that require the reporting of exact message sizes.

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Clear the Enable fast message retrieval check box.
