Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk Networks

You can use the Microsoft Mail Connector to connect an MS Mail (AppleTalk) server or a Quarterdeck Mail server to Microsoft Exchange Server. Microsoft Exchange Server uses the Microsoft Mail Connector to replace the function of the former Mail Connection Gateway. You use the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program to configure and administer the Microsoft Mail Connector.

Microsoft Exchange Server uses components of the Microsoft Mail Connector and a gateway component for the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server to communicate with MS Mail (AppleTalk).

Microsoft Mail Connector interchange   A Windows NT Server service that routes and transfers messages between Microsoft Exchange Server and the Microsoft Mail Connector postoffice.

Microsoft Mail Connector postoffice   A temporary information store for messages in transit and a connection point for the Microsoft Exchange Connection.

Microsoft Mail Connector (AppleTalk) message transfer agent (MTA)   A Windows NT Server service that works with the Microsoft Exchange Connection to transfer messages using the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server.

Microsoft Exchange Connection   A gateway for the MS Mail (AppleTalk) server provided with Microsoft Exchange Server. This gateway works with the Microsoft Mail Connector (AppleTalk) MTA to transfer messages between the Microsoft Mail Connector postoffice and MS Mail (AppleTalk).

For more information on the Microsoft Mail Connector and its components, see Chapter 10, "Microsoft Mail for PC Networks."
