Disabling ESMTP Support
You can disable ESMTP, which prevents the Microsoft Exchange Server computer from responding to an EHLO command with a list of supported ESMTP commands. You disable ESMTP when you want clients to stop issuing ESMTP commands.
You can disable ESMTP using the Windows NT registry.
- Open Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe.
- Open the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
MSExchangeIMC\Parameters
- If you are using Regedit.exe, choose Edit, and then choose New DWORD Value. If you are using Regedt32.exe, choose Edit, and then choose Add Value.
- If you are using Regedit.exe, type AdvertiseSMTPExtensions; under Value data, type 0. If you are using Regedt32.exe, type AdvertiseSMTPExtensions; under Data Type, choose REG_DWORD.
- If you are using Regedt32.exe, under Data, type 0.
