Template Information
If you use template information in Microsoft Mail, the postoffice migration tool does not migrate that information to the directory of Microsoft Exchange Server mailboxes. If you want to migrate data, there are three methods:
- Use directory synchronization with directory export and import.
- Use directory synchronization with custom recipient conversion.
- Export the data from the postoffice, convert the format, and import.
Choices you make for directory synchronization and how you are migrating users can limit which method you choose. For example, the first two options won't work for single-phase migration unless you set up the MS Mail Connector and directory synchronization first. For more information on directory synchronization and the Directory Import and Directory Export commands, see Microsoft Exchange Server Operations and Microsoft Exchange Server Maintenance and Troubleshooting.
To migrate with directory synchronization and export and import
- Configure directory synchronization to send template data.
- Before mailbox migration use the Directory Export command to export this data to an existing file with a header which specifies obj-class, common-name, and all the template-type fields.
- Use the Migration Wizard to migrate the mailboxes from Microsoft Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server.
- In the exported data, change the obj-class field from remote to mailbox. Add the mode column and set the value to modify.
- Use the Directory Import command to import the modified template data file. This modifies the newly created mailboxes with the template information.
To migrate with directory synchronization and custom recipient conversion
- Configure directory synchronization to send template data.
- Use the Migration Wizard to migrate the mailboxes from Microsoft Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server.
To migrate template information by converting the format
- Use the Template utility in Microsoft Mail (PC) to convert the ADMIN.INF file which holds encrypted template information into an unencrypted text file called ADMIN.TXT. Convert to Directory Import format manually or with a macro or a custom program.
- Use the Migration Wizard to migrate the mailboxes from Microsoft Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server.
- Use the Directory Import command to import the converted template data file.
This modifies the newly created mailboxes with the template information.
