Extracting LAN Manager and Windows NT Account Information

To extract LAN Manager and Windows NT account information, use the Extract Windows NT Account List command (Tools menu) in the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program. To use the Extract Windows NT Account List command, you must have LAN Manager 2.x or Windows NT Server installed. You must log on as a user or as an administrator and know the name of the primary domain controllers (PDCs) or backup domain controllers (BDCs).

  1. From the Tools menu in the Administrator window, choose Extract Windows NT Account List.
  2. In the Windows NT domain box, select the name of the domain that contains the user accounts.
  3. In the Windows NT domain controller box, select the name of a PDC or BDC for this domain.
  4. To locate the name of a PDC or BDC, use Windows NT Server Manager.
  5. Choose Browse to specify a file to which the extracted account information will be written.

The extracted file contains an entry for each user in the domain. Before importing the file into Microsoft Exchange Server, you can edit the file to delete network accounts that don't need mailboxes. This includes guest and service accounts.

The import file created by the extraction tool populates the following fields with data from the account list.
