Microsoft Certificate Server

You can install Microsoft Exchange Server on a Microsoft Certificate Server computer that is configured as a server or a client to another Microsoft Certificate Server computer. The Microsoft Certificate Server computer must have the Microsoft Exchange Server policy module installed.

For more information about Microsoft Certificate Server, see your Microsoft IIS documentation.

Note   If you install Microsoft Certificate Server as a client to another Microsoft Certificate Server, during IIS Setup you must install only the Web Client option under Microsoft Certificate Server. All other options must be cleared. The shared folder specified must be the actual shared folder that contains Microsoft Certificate Server.

Starting the Microsoft Certificate Server Computer

After you install and set up the Microsoft Certificate Server computer, you must start it. After the server is started, it acts as a Certification Authority (CA). The Microsoft Certificate Server must be running at all times.

  1. In Control Panel, choose Services.
  2. Select the Certificate Authority service.
  3. Choose Start, and then choose Close.
