new chally front spoiler will fit an old chally

Postby drewcrane » 26 Jul 2009 18:08

i had my annual car party and one of my buddies has an 09 r/t with a front spoiler, he bought an srt spoiler because it has some ducts for brake cooling,he actually uses his for cool air for the intake, so there are 2 different kinds, anyway he brought the spoiler he took off the car to see if it would fit my car and with a little adjustment, around the corners, and perhaps a small filler panel it will work, for only about $75.00 ,i think he said his cost but it may be a few bucks more, but under $100.00 USD ,its abs and actually has a stronger design, than some i have seen, here are some pics, also there is a pic of #42 owned by Jess Neal, fresh with dirt from the pikes peak hill climb, man that thing thundered the whole neighborhood when he fired that thing up he was the hit of the party, considering it rained most of the time it was still a kick ass time for my 9 th car show

Nice annual event you have going on Drew. That's pretty cool you're hanging with the Pikes Peak crowd. Must be some awesome action and stories

Are you going to fit the spoiler to your ride? It look better then the two piece unit IMO. Glad I waited on buying one.

yes he said they had a "tail waggin good time", he ran with the first group in vintage class, he made it to the top, and then they have to wait until the race is over until they can go back down, and it actually snowed on him at the summit 14,100 ft
and yes i plan on ordering a front spoiler this week i will let you know

Drew, The spoiler looks great. Are you going to order the SRT spoiler to take advantage of the cooling/ram air ducts?

I too am glad I did not order the original TA chin spoilers. That new spoiler looks very mean, and I think I will have to adapt it to mine.

Great thinking, Drew!

(By the way, what happened to that big sheetmetal front spoiler you were going to make a while back? I know you got to the "finished cardboard" stage. Did you give up on it?)

Nice work!
I'd wonder if the air ducts are big enough to be used for brake cooling, or whether they should be filled and blended in.

Did you fabricate the side parts that go up the wheel well?

Drew, I just ordered a SRT8 spoiler for my own challenger. Could you post those pictures or email them to me?

challenger31872@aol.com

It looks fantastic on yours. I am really excited to do this to mine as well. I'm not sure about the fender pieces, though. :?

here is some more pix, and the fenders "eye brows" are to cover up the part i had to cut off the back, you will need a good heat gun, and some clamps hopefully the pics will help, and you can use some door edge moulding to cover the cut edge .

Man, Drew!!! How the H* did you came up with this great idea'? It really looks fantastic! I did kind of like the split original version, but not enough to get a setup myself, did think the "Camaro style" version of front lip spoiler looks the best(not splitted)... But you really have camed up with a new thinking, like a pioneer Drew! Good thinking! I do not know if i like the small bits/ "eyebrows"... Do you have a pic without those?

I think this is something i want on my car!

I wish i was on that little party/ gathering, looks like a fun meeting you had there! =)

hey jimi ,thanks fro the compliments,

the main reason i did this is i wanted something that worked as well as being street friendly,it seems to be in the right place to function and not hit to many curbs,
as far as the eye brows, i used them just to be different, but it can be done with out

and sorry i dont have any pix with out but just squint a little and imagine them with out, lol, there are very subtle in person remember that camera angle is laying on the ground, and from a standing angle you dont really notice them

Are you talking about the lip or the eyebrows? =)

I can understand you do not always notice the lip standing in some angles.. The eyebrows does not look bad, it fit well with the lip, but you think it would look good without eyebrows aswell? :)

It sure looks different Drew, in a good way! :D

oh yea this thing will look good with out the eyebrows, when you get ready to do it let me know i will show you what and how i did it i, its not that hard it takes patience, and time, especially with the heat gun it will melt it beyond repair so go slow, and you will also need some door edge moulding to cover up the back edge against the fender also some automotive grade double sised tape just for the sides the main body of the unit is bolted on, or,

you could round up the sides and cut them off completly and just use the front section, i chose to use the whole thing as i wanted as much function as possible,as it wraps under the front to create an air dam effect and force more air around the car not under it

door edge moulding? Like the rubber inside doors? Is that for filling up some gap between lip and fender as for look better, or protect the fender from friction in some way from the lip?

Aaah, i will let you explain later if you do not have the patience to tell now =)

i went to an interior shop for the moulding they have different sizes, yea if you super size it you can see it on the edge, it fits over the edge, and has adhesive on the inside, it worked great :thumbsup:here is a pic you mught be able to see it, i can also take a pic of the moulding so you can see that too i have time i can help you if you are interested, let me know

So was the turn signal bump the most difficult to deal with or the center seem? Did you heat that area or trim the plastic. Looks good Drew for sure.

Drew, when you have the time, do you think you could take a pic on the car from the side later? Would like to see how the lip turns out looking from side... :)
