On Saturday the 12th of July, I visited Pite Dragway for the first time in about 20 years. I was a regular visitor between 1981-1986 but have not been there very much since then. Back in those days I lived only 300 km from the race track, but now live 1200 km from it so it is not as easy to get there as it was before. It was a great feeling to be back there again though. :thumbsup:

It was almost like getting home. :nod:

The race track is surrounded by deep forests filled with mosqitoes. :ashamed:

It all makes an odd combination together with gasoline/nitro/methanol/burnt rubber. I enjoyed every minute of it. I wish I could have been there all three days instead of only just a few hours.

This race Challanger definitely looks great, doesn´t it? It was my favourite car at the event. I wish I had seen race though.

Late in the evening I saw a couple of sad looking faces. :worry:

They looked a bit confused over the situation, it seemed like they did not know what to do.

When I went home in my car I suddenly remembered that a friend of mine had experienced something similar: Cracked valve stems just below the valve plates :!:

Cracked connecting rods is a well known topic but I can´t remember that I have heard any discussion regarding cracked valve stems

I am having the idea that this phenomenon is more common on the exhaust valves due to the heat. Any opinions regarding this?

A way of trying to keep the mosqitoes away (a mosqito spiral). It does not work if you ask me.

Thanks for posting those incredible pics Chris! I dont know anything about Top Fuel or Blown Hemi's, wish I did. Amazing the amount of heat and pressure,(I assume), on those powerplants! The Craftsmanship is amazing on that "Race Challenger" with KB Hemi I assume? :thumbsup:

Thats why I dont use our local machine shop. That looks like their piston ring grinder! :lol:

I wish I knew more about them too. To one day be a part of a drag race team would really be something (not necessarily the fastest classes).

that orange a body,with the awesome looking engine, is that a predator carb?or is that a totally custom intake?it kinda looks like and old predator carb, but i think i see a pair of holleys

Yeah, I also looked twice at that engine bay. I believe it is a pair of Holley 600 vacuums or something. An unusual setup.

yes there is some very impressive cars there the anglia, and the granada,alot of very clean , and custom work ,yes that a body has what looks like a custom intake, i wonder how it runs :nod:

Those are 2 Holley 660's SuperStock Carbs as used on the NHRA/IHRA68 Hemi A-Body Darts and Barracudas. Sheetmetal intakes are allowed. That intake is slightly offset enough to call it a crossram but in reality it's a " Tunnel Ram" those 426 Hemi's reportedly make around 950 H.P. and run in the mid 8's@150+M.P.H.
