71 V-Code

Hi, my name is Michael, i am from Austria and i own a 71 440 SixPack Challenger (real V-Code) and a 70 SuperBee 440 SixPack.
This is a very interesting website with a lot of information for our hobby.
My Challenger is an Export model (Switzerland) with a 240 km/h speedo and clear front turn signal lamps and it has the I on the fender tag. It has the Schinznach (AMAG) plate, too. I bought it in switzerland two years ago after it sat since 1991. I restored it back to original specs (i have the buildsheet) and drove the first miles this late summer. It has the original matching numbers engine.
Perhaps one of the board members knows, how many 71 V-code Challengers were exported to europe and how many do still exist?

I have to say that I am very impressed indeed with this car. Very nice work and a very nice example. This is the sort of car the rest of us on here dream about owning. Thank you for sharing it with us.

As for production numbers...
Well this is a tricky one. There were 246 V-code '71 Challengers built for sale in the USA but how many were built for Canada or Export is very hard to find out.

Total '71 R/T hardtop (all engines) production came to 4630 units. 723 of those were not for the USA market and 5 of them were Hemis sold in Canada. That is as close as I can get to a figure.

The most I can add is that of the 246 made, 127 had 4-speed transmissions and 119 had automatics. Very nicely done car!

It looks as if Michael has sold his car. I have hi-jacked some information and pic´s from the ebay ad. It is a nice car.

1 of 3 built Export V-Codes Challengers
Sold new in Switzerland through AMAG Schinznach

Restored from 2002 to 2003 after it sat dismantled since the early nineties. National Show Winner. Was built as a driver, not a trailer queen. Car was driven approximately 2500 kilometers every year since rebuild. Odometer reads approximately 22,000 km (about 14,000 miles; maybe 120,000 km which equals 74,500 miles).

K-member, suspension and brake parts are powder coated, all bearings and shocks are new. 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust system with h-pipe, stock end tips. Sure-Grip (3.23) added. Trans oil cooler added. Engine is a stock rebuild with a resto cam, 9.5:1 c/r, stock torque converter, stock exhaust manifolds. Runs and drives just perfect! No overheating or other issues at all.

The original cast iron SixPack intake manifold and carbs were missing, mounted is an Edelbrock aluminum SixPack intake with newer carbs. Numbers matching engine is .030 over, was in the car the first year after restoration. The Block was replaced in 2004 just for safety reasons. Numbers matching engine block is now in storage, but is included in this auction - will be delivered with the car. The engine in use is a block built to stock specifications. Transmission is not numbers matching, was replaced already in the early eighties.

Buildsheet is in near perfect shape! Door sticker is missing. VIN matches on Buildsheet, Dash, Fender Tag, Schinznach Plate, radiator support, cowl and engine block!

Gorgeous Challenger R/T Michael! I love the "steelies" and have prepared a set for mine with 15" police wheels,(slotted for cooling), painted body color and some re-pop Goodyears! :thumbsup:

The car is listed again. This would be a nice car for one of the british dudes. You guys can drive it home and don't need to bother with the shipping. There would not be any duties or taxes, since the car is in the EU already.

I am not sure if there are too many crazy people that would ship the car back to the US. I know only 2 (incl. me). Who else shipped a Challenger back from Europe to the US ?

A freind of mine has shipped most of his cars (mostly wing cars) back to the US because people here cannot afford them. If they have that sort of money over here they usually buy "real exotics" and not (as they see them) some old badly made Yank car.

Here this is more of a blue collar hobby. Which is why so many of us are in so much debt!

Well I love my Challenger to bits but if I had the sort of money some Hemi cars go for I would use it to buy one of the better Aston Martin V8s.

Having said that. I was talking to an obviously wealthy guy who had trailered a Jag E-Type to a show and he was all over my Chally.
He had spent a small fortune on his Jag and he had to admit he found the lines of the Challenger more beautiful than his Jag or his Aston Martin at home.
And when I told him I had less that £16,000 in the Challenger it blew his mind because he had more than twice that in the Jag and Jag values were going down while Mopar prices keep going up.

Dave, a friend of mine has an Aston DBS for sale in Europe. Dark blue, engine is missing, partly restored. Left Hand drive. He has no interest in the car anymore, it is sitting since around 15 years.

Christer, sorry about that. Yes, of course, Sweden would be perfect for this Challenger.
