Conversion to the 833 4-speed, what to change ?

Postby 72 Challenger (Hans) » 25 Nov 2003 18:19

Hey all! Me and my buddy just opened the seacontainer with my buddy's racecar and LOTS of parts which he shipped in from overseas. With these parts there's also a Sox & Martin built 4-speed with steel bellhousing, special gears, clutch plates etc. completely lightend blabla... He doesn't use it so I'm able to install it in my car if I want. If I want that? You bet I want.

But what will need to be changed to convert from the 727 to 833?
- obviously the tranny
- the pedals + linkage off course
- shifter + linkage
- driveshaft / yokes / U-joints ?
- crossmember ?

Please help me out here...thx

Use one of these hydraulic deals instead of the standard clutch linkage.

You will need a trans hump but they sell them on this site too. Have a good look around this web site as it is VERY good stuff.

I just noticed the question mark in your post. Hans. The driveshaft will need to be longer and use the strongest yokes/UJs you can.

You will need to open your floor and weld in a floor hump.

(possible to buy from http://www.autobodyspecialt.com/ , $129.00 )

Thanks so far guys.

Dave, I think I'll pass up that hydraulic clutch setup; quite expensive. Rather get some muscles in the legs eh.

Does anybody have any close-up pictures of the different parts needed, especially parts like brackets to the frame / linkages etc. Was looking around for the bracket which need to be welded to the frame in front of the firewall and they ask about 35$ for a stupid simple bracket. With some pictures I could make myself one. Greatly appreciated these different pictures. There must be a couple of 4-speed challengers around here.
