I saw a 69-70 Mustang front spoiler fitted to a Challenger and I thought it looked really good, I don't really like the split type off the T/A, any body put anything on their car like this
I think Drew and Roland may have used something similar

Some of the mountain passes you have to climb heading west of the Rockies are pretty damn high and we got hit by a sudden snow storm. It got well below freezing and for a moment I even considered putting a jumper on.

A guy I know once drove from coast to coast. He said it was required (a law) to have snow chains with you when you passed the Rockies. Is it still like that? Does anybody know?

Just seen that pic Daveman, yeah the spoiler looks good, think i'm gonna try something like that

some local and/or state jurisdictions require chains during certain times of the year. I do know that the Mt Rose highway going into Tahoe requires you to carry chains during the winter and to use them when the snow reaches a certain depth (don't recall the depth offhand, but their roadside markers are between 15 and 20 ft tall.

I recall this from last year, driving to and from Tahoe (2-meter high walls of compacted snow on either side of the road), although I don't remember the dates during which that is enforced (I think it was written on the signs).

What I do remember, is that my friends and I had planned to go through the ghost town of Bodie after leaving Tahoe. We were on the road, with T-shirts and sunglasses, in the desert, and the small road leaving highway 395 was blocked, the sign on the road block said that snow prevented access to Bodie, and the road would be blocked at least for another 2 weeks..
That was March 30th last year (and it snowed in Vegas some 10 days later).

I also remember some traffic signs leaving Tahoe, saying something like "absolutely no stopping at any time, high avalanche risk in the area"

Bodie is a cool place. Was there several years ago. My brother lived south of Reno and we would drive down to Yosemite for a couple of days. Always had to time my visits so that we could actually get into the park from the east entrance. That entrance is at around 9ooo ft IIRC and would not open until sometime between late May and June, due to the snowfall.
We stopped at Bodie once to check it out and ended up spending the day. Very desolate.
There are supposed to be some awesome 4x4 trails up that way too!

Another place to visit near Bodie/ east side of Yosemite is Mono Lake http://monolake.org/ This place is also rather desolate. It is so desolate and moonscapeish (?) that the Apollo astronauts trained there.

I remember this area too, as we did try to go to Bodie by the other road just before reaching Mono Lake. The road was blocked too, but ther was a long stretch of straight, desert highway whach was rather tempting...

We ended up visiting another ghost town, the Cerro Gordo Mine off highway 136 at Keeler. Extremely unfriendly access road (climbing 5000ft on a 7-mile long road). Very nice scenery at the top and during the (long) climb. Six people in a truck, joking about flat tires, punctured radiators and trans fuild leaks on that road...Funny memories!

Yes the US West is a grand place. We (the board) needs to get a team together to do some open road racing. It's run in Texas and Nevada for the most part.
The upper classes need body mods (like a front spoiler and splitters) to make class speeds. (how's that for getting out of hijack )

Thinking of the Silver State Classic Challenge? you need to enter at least once in the lower category (Touring) before your application for the higher categories (Unlimited) can be considered.

I remember an article in Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle 10 years ago about a cuda being prepared for this kind of event (article was titled "The Nutty Professor" or something like that).

Drew's mate "AMX Jim" that came with us on the Vanishing Point trip had his AMX clocked at 185mph which I think was during the Silver State event?

Does that BigRed 69 Camaro driven by Gottlieb still run in thiose type of events? Always used to get a feature in Hot Rod or Car Craft years back, really impressive car

Gottileb's car was banned a few years after it first ran but it was re-instated a couple of years ago. It was a seriously fast car, Holman & Moody (?) chassis, NASCAR-spec BBC engine etc. IIRC it was basically a street-legal NASCAR Camaro. Rumor was the ban was implemented b/c a couple of hotrodders with $$$ were showing up the rich boys and their toys. don't recall the official reason given though. I guess the Ferarris, Porsche GTs and company were tired of seeing the rearend of some serious American muscle I would love to do one of those races, either in Nevada or Texas. Have a friend that co-dawged one in Texas and had a great time. What's amazing is some of the guys that run them just fly in and rent a car from a rental company (Hertz, Alamo etc) and run. Depending on the car they rent, they run different classes. Imagine going to Hertz and getting a 5.0 Mustang or Challenger R/T and running a race then returning the car Monday morning
I remember the Cuda. Gold colored with black accents, tube-framed, injected 440 (?), 5 or 6 speed, huge racing brakes (for the day), etc. i had kept the magazine b/c of that Cuda article but it's stowed away somewhere in my house, probably never to see the light of day again.

That though has absolutely NEVER crossed my mind.
That being said, there are a few rental places which do have SRT-8 Challengers for rent, but it's a bit pricey...

I'd settle for a Z06 Corvette seeing as I am kind of used to Vettes now.

Looking at BBOR results (last previous year listed), it appears that there were several Dodge trucks, a couple new generation Challengers, some other LX Mopars, a very cool looking Corvair and a '73 Cuda.
