Can anyone guide me on the exact placement for the
Challenger RT trunk emblems. I just finished painting my car and need to have some measurements.

I don't think the guys on the production line had any dimensions to go by so they were just placed on the left side of the trunk lid by eye as far as I know. So there will be some variation from car to car.

Hang on while I write a big 'L' on my left hand and a big 'R' on my right so I can stop getting them mixed up!

I am sure i was saying right in my head but my fingers must have heard left.

Thanks Dave but I could use a good up close picture and if anyone is really generous they could send me some measurements from the edges of the trunk lid. How do most people restoring cars get this exact? Trace an existing car's placement?

Damn. I was just over there with my car and a digital camera today! I never thought to take a snapshot of that. Sorry.

Like I said. I don't think there is an exact placement. The workshop manual gives no clue. I have seen minor differences on the placement of the badges on the cars I have seen but how do you know which are original? I think the guy on the shop floor probably did it by eye.

Any book you have with Challengers in should give you some idea.

Do you want with bumble bee stripe?

Or without?

If you look at those badges you can see there is a difference in the height.

Thanks Dave for getting back to me so quickly. This site is outstanding. I will probably eyeball it and give it a go rather than waiting until I run into another car I can stencil. Sounds like most of these cars have been repainted and badges are not an exact science. Bublebee strip looks nice. I have a Sublime car that might like the black strip. Any science to painting that on correctly?

Yeah. The dimensions for the stripe are in the Year One Catalog if you need them. If you don't have their catalog let me know and I will scan it.

Dave, I actually had a friend tell me that RTSE cars in 70 had the Challenger emblem on the left trunk side and the RT emblem on the customary right side (passenger). I have never seen this - can't be true. Somebody confirm this please. Steve

I have never come across this Steve. I don't believe it. I have photos of R/T SE cars someplace but I am on my way out of the door at the moment. I will post an image later.

Hi Steve,
I looked around for you and found:
http://www.geocities.com/moparpowerclub/e_class.htm
This site shows the rear of a R/T SE's rear, it is hard to see but both emblems are deffinitely at the right hand side.
And then I found:
http://mapleleafmopars.homestead.com/70rtse.html
No doubt about the emblems. The car is stunning, read the guy's story!
I miss mine, so can't get the measurements for you. Anxious about that too.

The factory did indeed have measurements for where the trunk badges should be placed. I still think in parctice they were just put on by eye.

I had an original R/T rear deck lid to go on and the measurements I got off it were 1.5 inches up from the rear edge of the lid, 2.25 inches in from the right edge to the R/T badge and 7.75 inches from the right edge to the Challenger script emblem. The boys at the factory were pretty close.

It is possible that the "original untouched" versions I have seen that were a bit more off than that have in fact been messed with at some point.

However going from the rest of the build quality and the way the factory fitted the front grille (and sometimes fender) badges it would be unusual if this one object was placed on with great care! :D
