Passenger side mirror

The doors that are on my car came with only the drivers side mirror. I want to put on a matching passenger mirror. Do they go in the exact same spot on the door, in other words would the screw holes be the same distance from the front edge of the door? Thanks.

Thanks Dave, without me actually asking, you have answered my question as well!

Just make sure you have a matching pair as there are loads of "look-alikes" from other models and years.

Christer did an excellent thread on here somewhere identifying al the mirrors.

My car had a 1970 mirror on the drivers door and a 1971 mirror on the passenger door. No-one seemed to notice.

The base is the same length as the drivers side one, so beyond that, I don't really care if they're both for the right car, as long as they fit! I got a dark green painted one from Duncan to fit on the passenger side, and a chrome one already on the drivers side, so they're both currently being stripped down and repainted to match body colour...

You will not see anything in it without the round shiny bit.

Haha that's exactly what I thought Daveman
The base on my 72 is much shorter than that, but my doors are already drilled for the correct mirrors so I have to use the right ones.
I got a nice matte black remote drivers mirror from Dunc too, but can't find a passenger door one to match the door fixing slots and holes.

I knew there was something different about it, but couldn't put my finger on it....

I'm assuming I have the correct mirrors, as I bought some of these:

...and they match the bases and the existing gasket that's on the drivers side. Only thing is, the gasket marked 'left' seems to fit the passenger side and vice versa!
