Seat Track to Floor Spacers?

I notice that my seat tracks keep binding on the carpet. Someone said there were large spacers about the size of a half-dollar that dispersed the weight and kept the carpet away from the track/ springs.
Is this true?

I think that might be true for 6-way seats, I'm not sure whether these would also be used for standard seats :
