First of all, I must thank those that have helped me in the past. For the most part, the Thermoquad is running just fine. That being said however, I still have one problem that is not making me overly happy.
When the car is cold, to set the fast idle, I must manually move the fast idle screw manually up the ramp it rides on. When the car has warmed up, to take it off fast idle, I have to again manually move it. Just tapping the throttle, or waiting for the car to get hot doesn't work.
If you've got a factory service manual, turn to page 14-42. The left photos show the problem screw? in question. On the bottom photo, just above and a little to the right ot the tang you are to bend to adjust the choke unloader it shows quite clearly. No where in the FSM does it tell you if that screw? is adjustable or moveable. I have two carbs (one off of a 76 400 that was given to me for spare parts) and the one on the car. The linkage that this item holds to the carb base, moves easily on the parts carb, while the linkage on my car is a bear to move.
Has anyone in the group removed or loosened this screw, if it is inded a screw and not a mounting stud?
If you have removed or loosened it, did you require a special tool? I've tried (not really hard as I don't want to damage either carb) to loosen it with a flat blade screw driver by turning it counter clockwise, all to no avail.
Any and all help with this annoying problem is much, much appreciated.
On a happier note, the summer here for the most part was great weather to get the car out and about. Early autumn is still very nice. I had a lot of fun with the Challenger this year, and I hope you all did to.
Thanks again, and over on the transmission side of the board, I've posted a specification sheet for those of you that may be changing or installing a high stall converter in the winter.
