New additions

Postby fal308 » 23 Feb 2012 4:27

Been meaning to post up here. We got Iggy and Sneakers some new pals, another Great Pyrenees and some kind of mutt ( thinking Great Dane and Lab?) Don't have a name for the Pyr as the girls can't decide on one but the other is Jakers, after some show on TV (we call him Jake).
Eddie, we picked up the Pyr in Lamar, just south of Santa Claus.

Pics to come

By the way, on that picture I posted, the guy in the middle with a red shirt, no sign, and two pounds of sauerkraut for a hat looks awfully like someone on this forum, doesn't he?

I see you know exactly which character I'm referring to...

Now the only way to get that topic back on its tracks is to post puppy pics, fast!!

Oh, and Dave, nice set of Ray-Bans by the way...

I've been looking for the memory card but it got misplaced somewhere (I know!!!! One of the dogs ate it :D ) I'll take some more pics and post them.
Iggy is back to being the smallest dog again. When we got the new Pyr he was half Iggy's size and now he towers over Iggy.
Jake is still causing all sorts of trouble. but what can you expect from a six month old.
Sneakers tolerates the new crew but that is about it.
The cats hate Jake with a passion (he wants to play with everyone and all the time).

Can't find the card with the new guy when we got him. You could almost hold him in one hand. Also unfortunately they had to let go of Jakers as he was too exhuberant. He hurt my youngest niece a couple of times by jumping up on her and he is as big as she is. He was just looking to play but he was causing too much trouble.
If I find the card I'll post those pics.

Yeah, he was very rowdy. Was hoping he would settle down after neutering and getting settled in but it didn't happen. He liked to jump up on people and we couldn't dissuade him completely. He hurt my youngest pretty bad when he jumped up on her and she fell.
We tried for over a month to get him to calm down using various methods but nothing worked. The previous owner just let Jake be dominant and do whatever he wanted, instead of trying to train him in any way. The previous owner admitted to as much when she said that their daughter was afraid of him so they wouldn't interact with the puppy (cardinal sin of puppy training) and that even their 18 year old son couldn't handle him on a leash ( I'm thinking he was afraid also). Plus they stated they kept him caged all day and let him out only to eat and relieve himself.
That's not a way to treat a dog, much less a puppy. Here in the USA many people feel they have to have a dog even if they are ill-equipped to have one. We have a neighbor behind us like that. She got a pup and would cage it all day while they were gone at work/school. They let her out in the afternoon for about half an hour then back in the cage. The husband is actually afraid of dogs and their daughters are now afraid of the dog as it gets over-excited now when out. (Same situation as Jakers had).
I was hoping we had more time but to try as I believe Jakers could have turned out really well but it wasn't to be.

Thats a real shame, it was'nt like you did'nt try, you obviously know how to give plenty of animals a good home, lets hope he gets a kind person who can dedicate him some one to one time and calm him down

Here's one we got a few weeks ago to replace Jakers. He's a Landseer (Newfoundland variant) the girls named Oreo Cookie and we call Cookie.
