I am considering upgrading the bulbs in my 70 Challenger light bar and was thinking about LED replacements, which would make the light much brighter onto the gauges.
I understand that LEDS are not dimmable (unless you get a specific dimmable setup) so I suppose the light bar would be "on-full" at all times, which is fine because I'm sure we all leave the light level all the way up anyway.
Can anyone tell me if they've done this upgrade and if so, what part number is the original bulb in the light bar?

I don't reckon it would improve matters much Chuck cos of the way the light drops onto the gauges instead of being back lit. Maybe sinking leds into the recess in front of them might help, but from where they are normally mounted I don't think it would work.......................please prove me wrong tho cos I think they're crap as they are

I agree to Adian´s statment You could buy a new facia for the guages in white but it will not look stock any more !

I agree. After reading some of the other posts from some guys that have already done the upgrades- the lights don't diffuse as well as incandescent bulbs and tend to bleach out the central area of the lens and are not as bright, either.
So- conventional stays.

Yeah, i agree, good 'ole incandescent bulbs have a nice tone and diffusion. I found in very dark night driving (country driving) that i did have to dim the lighting about 50% to be comfortable. Mine (73 Rallye inst) shine through green lenses as well... i assume the 70s are the same. In city driving however, with other drivers and street lights around, up all the way (full brightness) is a must. BTW, i wanted to replace some of the orig blown bulbs and COULD NOT find the same rating. Maybe they are available in the States, but not here.
