But yeah, I would check the obvious 1st, reverse/low band adjustment, it sounds like the linkage is adjusted properly and the lack of debris is a good thing. Lets hope for the best! This is stright out of Carl Munroe's book: adjustment should be 2 turns with a 5.0 lever 2 1/4 turns with an unknown lever or one that is 4.2 and 4.25 2 1/2 turns if it's less than a 4.0 lever.

patrick wrote:Hey Drew! I just lost my reverse, last weekend. My fluid is at the opperating mark and clean. Just put a Trans-Go shift kit in it a couple of years ago. I found a Mopar guy up here that will take care of the total rebuild of the tranny plus rebuild of the torque converter, to the current engines stall spec's. $800.00 to $1000.00. Timing sucks though. I spent way more on the rear quarter's than, anticipated. It will be ready for the Woodburn Mopar NAT's though, two week's away. I guess that's what credit cards are for. Damn near had the thing paid off.

Lay out each sub unit as it comes out. Clean up each sub unit in turn and replaces the seals and clutch materials.
Re assemble each sub unit in turn.
Clean the case and check the overrunning clutch.
Reassemble and check thrust clearences as you go.
It sounds complicated but really it isn't. I can drop a trans one weekend and, just doing an hour or so each night, get the trans back in the car the next weekend.
Just follow the manual and maybe also a book on the subject as they have helpful tips.
Don't be scared. It will save you a fortune.

$500.00 is pretty damn cheap to rebuild a TF727.
Is this just for the labor or labor and parts? If it includes the parts, what parts?
Over the years I sold parts to transmission shops, the cheapest guys always put in the least amount of parts they could get away with and still make the unit sort of work.
ALL transmission overhauls should include: All gaskets and seals, all rotating metal sealing rings, all bushings, all washers, the friction plates, the steel plates, all bands, and the convertor.
I just helped a fellow MOPAR guy get the parts to do his transmission (deal pricing), and the parts bill alone was close to the $500.00 mark.
Some of the cheap guys had their own convertor rebuilding plant (emory paper and a CIL spray can of paint).
I could never understand (and still can't) why many $$$$ is spent on a vehicle, and owners still look at the cheapest way to fix a transmission.
Just my two bits worth.
Fix it right once.
oh I know I have been ripped off before, this trans is about 10 years old and has had alot of track use driving in low sometimes, the last gy that charged me 800 bucks didnt replace anything
the Guy Tony is a good old friend and when ever I bring something in like this trans 10 years ago he dropped what he was doing and took the whole thing apart while I watched and we found out that nothing was replaced, so he replaced everything that could be replaced and the thing worked great for years,
so I hear what you are saying 500 bucks is cheap but he buys alot of stuff from his suppliers and he gets me some smoking deals for sure....so no worries here but thanks for the heads up about this

patrick wrote:$ 1650.00, U.S. My tranny wasn't only screwed, it was F--ked! I had no idea how bad the reverse band was. Tranny guy said the oil was black... I didn't see that. Still a great reference from my friend, Tim. "PUD Auto Mechanic!" I thought I could hang for another year but, NO! Now the tranny is good for over 500 plus, horse power. We'll see how that does with, what that 340, will do. I think with all the goodie's, I have at best 350 H.P. We'll see. One thing for sure. It's done!!! I love the damn car and, the wife loves it , too. I think, to keep me away from the other vixen's. Who know's how, they think? LOL!!! The car is a chick magnet! I love that part. I love my wife! That's who I want to impress !
