Firewall Insualtion Locations

Postby cv70chall » 13 May 2011 13:11

Hey-

I've finally- FINALLY go to the point where I can begin reassembling the inside of the firewall and I have all the new insulation pieces but in the amount of time that has passed since I took all the old crap out, I've forgotten exactly where all these panels go. There are a couple that are no-brainers, like on the kick panel areas, but there are several I can't place.
-HELP-

Thanks for the great post on rebuilding the heater box! I have the same issues it seems like most others have- cracks and that broken fitting for the hose. At least it's relatively easy to repair. That'll be next!

Chuck, before you start to fit up the insulation pads, get some Dynomat or similar stick on insulation material on there first, the modern stuff can be hidden by the repro stuff, but it actually works :!:

Hey Adrian-
I actually applied Hushmat to the floor all the way about 6 inches up on the firewall. I'm going to add some more on the firewall and finish the floor with some adhesive silencing foam panels, too.

Thanks for the info!

Its a wise move, that old insulation is very poor compared to modern materials. Have you kept all the plastic spike plugs that go thru the firewall?

Is this an A/C car? If it is, the insulation is different and I'm not sure where it all goes. If it's a NON A/C car then this picture might help. Also, the reproduction kick panel insulation kit is missing one piece that goes inside the kick panels themselves. I don't know why they left that piece out of the kit.

Oh yes, I saved EVERY ONE of them!
I like the foam insulation Burdar used on his chassis. Looks like Hushmat Silencer Megabond Foam.
My car is an AC car, so I would need a different photo.

Thanks!

Actually, I need photos from an A/C car. I have 4 little pieces of insulation and there wasn't really any of the original stuff so I have no "roadmap".
I have attached photos of the pieces.
Also, can anyone tell me what this LARGE gasket is for?

Thanks and have a great weekend!

And where does this large gasket go?
