Heater box and duct question • The Dodge Challenger Message Board

I am in the process of putting my 70 Challenger back together. The body guy/painter removed the heater core and box and I am putting it back in. Does anybody know if there is any insulation directly between the firewall and the heater box? I have purchased all the insulation that goes around it and on the side firewalls, but I don't see any insulation for that area.

Is this what you mean? This is on Hezzel's 71 RT project, but his is aircon, i assume yours is non aircon? Don't see why they both wouldn't be the same though.

Maybe 1/8" foam wrap insulation would work. Just add layers as needed to get the fit right.

There was factory insulation on the heater only cars as well.

Seams like someone is reproducing them?

I know Detroit Muscle Technologies makes ALL the body gaskets and seals for most Mopars (if he hasn't got it he will make it for you for free, so he can copy the pattern). Not sure if he does this type of insulation though. He also makes the repro laser cut Rallye dash woodgrain stick on. I have bought quite a bit of stuff from him and they are really great to deal with. Don, i think his name is. But if he doesn't do it, i'm sure he could point you in the right direction

His name is Jim. I just bought a firewall gasket kit and a heaterbox gasket kit from him. I also sent him my origonal OSAC valve gasket and he made me a new one free of charge. It looks like he sells the insulation that is used on the A/C boxes.

Yes, there is insulation in that area. Both on the heaterbox area and up higher on both sides of the steering colom. R/T Specialties has it as well as others. Here is a link the R/T site. Scroll down to the middle of the page for the insulation.

Nice cleanup and refit though. :thumbsup:

Coincidentally, I was at a friends place the other day and the trees were losing leaves pretty fast. Today, one of those leaves fell out of the lower front fender. :shock:

They are passing for now but it's time to check on those cowl vents and drainage tracts again. :disbelief:

Oh yeah, leaves! i know all about them! surrounded by gum trees (eucalyptus) and they lose their leaves all year round, and they get everywhere.

on a similar subject of items of nature falling from the trees: a bird kindly shat on my hood today. Big one too. Luckily it just missed the polished nostrils and hood badge.

They usually hold it in until you have finished washing the car. Then do it while you are putting the bucket away. :lol:
