I purchased a felt kit from YearOne that makes use of rivets to attach the interior felt to the plastic panels.

The instructions seem clear enough.....place the felt, drill holes thru the panel's "rib", insert rivets with the provided spacer & washer in each hole....

Problem is the spacer does not seem to fit with the TWO layers of "ribs" at the top of my door. Instructions mention only one rib but there are two layers....one is a flimsy rib top of door and the other lower one (lower by 3/8" or so) is the more substiantial rib which seems to be the one I should attach the felt to. Again, the problem is that to fit in the spacer the first, flimsy rib needs to be removed. And, the instructions don't mention more than one rib.

I've seen these used in many cars at car shows, ets so I know they work and are out there.

Has anyone here used this kit? How did you attach this type of felt to the panels?

I have only used them on the rear quarter windows many years ago. Can't remember having any problem.

Just removed the panel and fixed them on I think. Maybe my kit was different as I don't remember any spacers.

I have a set from YO in the attic waiting to install someday. I don't remember a second rib on them though.

Here is a pic of an old panel taken for another purpose. The OLD felt is still on this one but it shows the two ribs. This is near the back end of the panel. On my panels the top rib is really, really thin and unsubstiantial. It seems odd to attach the felt to this one.

Do the spacers go between the two ribs?

They give you 3/4 inch long rivets in the kit. The spacers are about 1/2 inch long.

I tried what you suggest already but why put the spacer in between if the 2nd rib is not used?? You could use a much smaller rivet without the spacer if that was the intent. Also, both the spacer and washer won't fit between the two. Why have the spacer there if the rivet does not go thru the second rib? So, I tried that....spacer in the middle and washer on the back side of the 2nd rib. Problem is the rivets are not long enough to grab the washer.

As I talk this thru seems to me that the spacers have to be there to offset the felt (push it in tword the window) but hold it tight to the panel. As such attaching it to the first rib would SEEM to be correct. It's just that the first rib is so flimsy, I can't believe that that is what holds this in place.

Hopefully someone has actually done this and can answer how they actually did it.

i just did this recently & the spacer goes between the felt & the 1st rib & the washer goes on the rivet after its through the rib if you hold the felt in place so that it sits correctly you will see that it is 1/2 inch away from the 1st rib at least thats how it worked on mine & i had no trouble

Did it that way and it seems to work fine. Guess I was over-thinking it.

Sometimes you just have to do what the instructions say, regardless if that's how you'd do it or not.
