Can anyone tell me how to reproduce the rough paint on a 74' Challenger?

I think he means the rough textured Argent used on things like the JH grille and the rear plate above the rear lights on the SE etc..

The 72-74 Challengers use a textured argent paint on the tail panel. There are two factory textured argent colors. Light argent and med/dark argent. The correct color for the 72-74 Challengers is the med/dark argent.

Totally Auto sells both argent colors in a spray can...they are fairly close to the correct colors as factory but arn't 100%.

There are also other paint brands that make textured paint that is close to factory appearing. rtse4406pack just got done painting his shaker with one of those paints and had good success with it.

No kidding.

I spent a lot of time looking at 72-74 Challengers this year at the Mopar Nats in Ohio. I needed to find the correct argent for my 73 build. I only found 2 cars that were painted correctly. :disbelief:

Talking with the owner of a 73 Challenger this year at the Mopar Nats, I found out how the factory painted the tailpanel area.

The tail light housings were first sprayed completely with organisol black. Then the tail light areas were masked off and the med/dark argent was sprayed ontop of the black. If you look at origonal housings, you can see small black specks showing through the argent.

That only applies to the light housings though. The accual tail panel wouldn't have had any black sprayed on it before the argent was applied. That means the light housings and the tail panel would have had a slightly different appearence.
