That reminds me. I only have a bit of sellotape holding my tax disc in the Challenger. Thousands of Pounds on parts and too tight to pay a couple of Quid for a disc holder. :lol:
I must sort out something a bit better. :blushes:

Not exactly sure what the tax disc is for? Road fees?

This may relate though, our roads supervisor was fired this week for using county employees, equipment, and materials to, lets say,, better his financial situation. :s022: No criminal charges though. :s001:

Originally it was a tax to pay for the upkeep of the roads (hence the slogan on that one). But of course in reality it is just another tax that goes into the big pot of money they use for everything.

Our licence plates stay with the car from the first day it is registered for use on the roads. That registration number on the plate us placed in a database so at any given time Big Brother knows if you have paid for your annual road tax (that disc) and to get that disc every year you have to have a Ministry of Transport (MOT) test on the condition of the car as well as valid car insurance. All these are linked on the database so they know if you are driving without insurance or MOT certificate.

If you break the laws on any of the above you will be fined and have penalty points placed on your licence. Too many points and you loose your licence. Your car can also be crushed in some cases. :shock:

What of track only vehicles? Vehicles that will never be on a public road?

They don't need anything and don't even need to be registered. Unless the class of racing is for street legal cars.

The tax disc sounds like the vehicle registration fee we have here. In the US the money does not go where it has been represented either.

When the California budget went in the toilet last spring, they raised the fee 20% to help cover the shortfall. (My 04 truck now costs $425 a year :x ). At the same time, the county road maintenance budgets were cut to help fund Sacramento. The Ca gov. doesn't like having millions of automobiles here in the first place. Registration fee increases are easy target.

The cost of a tax disc here for cars registered from 2002 depends on how big the engine is. So big 4x4 SUVs cost about twice what you are paying. But at the other end of the scale cars under 1000cc cost very little.

Best of all though are cars registered before 1972. The tax disc is free for "Historic" cars. :D

It appears they tell you what to drive over there also. Over half the $ from my one ton pickup is for weight fees. Like a 10,000 lb GVW vehicle really destroys the road surfaces :roll: .

Lucky, the 75 and older cars don't have to pass the bi-annual smog tests though. "For now anyway...". :|
