440 six pack fuel pump

What does it take to find a correct 440 six pack mech. fuel pump. The first one I bought had the wrong inlet size for the 3/8 fuel line it was 5/16. I returned it went to Napa who sold me the 'right' Carter fuel pump. Yeah right - the inlet was right but the outlet will not take the flared fitting end of my fuel line.
Straighten me out, should the outlet going to the carb be a flared tubing end or something else?

I can't find any photos but it should be a Carter MS-48455.

You're right it SHOULD be but that is the last one I just got from Napa and it does not have the outlet side to the carb right as my line has a flared fitting (from Classic Tube) and the pump looks like either a straight thread or NPT.
