question, what hydraulic lifters you recommend using the 501 cam, i got stock style mp lifters in at mo with isky iron adjustable rockers with crane 3/8 pushrods, have set preload to best i can while still having 1 or 2 threads left under the rocker arm but still getting a bit of tappet noise, prob only 1  when cruising around 60ish and sometimes worse when its cold but only after 2500rpm and goes around 3500rpm, the whole valve train was new, have even swapped lifters around but no diff, doesnt seem to affect performance just annoying any thoughts ?

Hmm had this problem once, can't remember what fixed it, think it was something like changing the oil to a different brand. I havent run a Hydraulic cam for over 12yrs. You set the lifter preload OK?
Not much help here am I? Maybe Dave -r can help?

How much preload have you got? You need 20-40 thou.

prob closer to 50thou on the pre load , certainly has helped fitting the isky iron adjustables, using morris 20-50w oil which we have always used at the workshop, when i used the stock rocker assembly the plungers in the lifters were half way down there bore  could be down to heads being milled in the past ? not by me tho, so would we be happy with mp stock style lifters? thanks for any input guys

Yeah stock lifters are OK but they only have a thing wire circlip holding them together. This can fail. In particular if the lifters pump up.

A good lifter has a stronger clip.

All lifters will pump up to some degree a high rpm. So the less preload you use the less they can pump up.
I used to only use 20 thou because I had the good lifters. But some racers have used zero lash with this type of lifter to eliminate any chance of pump up.

I wouldn't advise that with the stock wire type clips.
