radiator question

Postby burdar » 10 Apr 2009 17:29

I had the origonal radiator fixed years ago back in my home town. The radiator was never installed back in the car. Undortunatly the guy that did the work spray bombed the whole thing black when he was done. There are runs all over the place and it looks like crap.

What can I do to get the radialor clean and paint free so I can paint it myself. Can a machine shop hot tank it? Would that take the paint off?

The shop might get it partially off but a chemical stripper thats safe for soft metals,(alluminum&brass&Copper), would most likely work best. Methyline Chloride, redi-Strip ect come to mind. www.eastwood.com makes 'decoat' that is reportedly safe on soft metals, although I have never used it. They also make the special thin formulated radiator black paint.

Be sure to only use paint designed for use on radiators.
