Rear Sway Bar Source

Postby Moparman1972 » 28 Feb 2009 1:36

Does anyone know of a source for a rear sway bar?

I am talking about the original style, not the aftermarket style that goes under the axle.

I know FirmFeel offers the original style, but it is $375, while aftermarket ones sell for $180. Quite a difference.

Yearone, Paddock Parts, Summitt Racing do not turn up any original-style sway bars for sale.

Thanks,

Dylan

After dealing with FFI here recently, I conclude, they go for the gold. Good luck on your search. :)

Most people wanna hang on to them, but ebay would be your best bet. I have seen one there once. i checked out Firm Feel rear SB's as well- yes, rather costly, especially if you have to also buy the heavy spring pad mounts

Dylan, Addco lists a 1" rear sway bar for 70-74 Challenger Part#149 and the 3/4" is part#261 I dont know if they are the underhung or frame mounted OEM style but it's listed under their "OEM" style catalog. I also dont know the price but the phone is 1-800-621-8916

Eddie, where did you find the 1" sway bar listed? Looking on yearone, there is actually a 7/8" sway bar that says that it mounts in the factory location UOS, so I am calling on that. By looking at Summitt Racing, you can also open up the instruction manuals for the Addco bars they carry, and they are all the aftermarket style under the rear end.

I will add this to the list of parts i check ebay regularly for, and maybe score a deal.

I got the info at the Addco site. Yikes 800.00 for the N.O.S.!! Oh well if ya gotta ya gotta! The FF looks really cool at that the price you listed and would save you some bucks over the nos stuff. Plus the FF is thicker and built with much better steel, thicker mounts, leaf spring plates, poly bushings ect..Whatever you choose ,,Good Luck and show us the pic when it's mounted. Since we are in a 'global depression' the cars have come down slightly in price. The parts have not.

There ya go! Drew has a nice original one! Firm Feel can sell you the spring mount pads for it, new polyurethane link bushes and you're off and flying

yes i think you would be better off with a thicker and newer Firmfeel one. After 35+ years of holding that heavy fat ass onto the road, the original one might have lost a little spring. But i put my old one back on - due to budget, might as well, its better than none at all, maybe that red paintjob on it will improve it!
