$1,000 Master Cylinder

Postby Jon » 02 Feb 2009 3:46

Anyone else see this one go down on eBay?

Nos 70-71 Hemi only master cylinder winning bid $995. (Plus shipping of coarse )

It went from $810 directly to $995 in the last 5 seconds. Wow.

It looks a little worn for a 1000 dollar investment....... :s001:

To think, if I had the money to spend a 1 with three 0's on the end, on a simple master cylinder.

Combine it with this brake booser and you got a working (hopefully) $3K master cylinder/brake booster setup.

You guys know that was a very rare 2 year only item,(70-71 Hemi car E&B Body only)? I think the article which is archived on this site somewhere, lol, states that the Hemi Master was a unique item.

Are these brake parts unique because of the large Hemi head made clearance problems thus requiring a special casting? Or is there other factors. :?

The space the valve covers took up on the hemi interfered with regular length master cylinders, I think.

And I don't care if it was only available on June 29 1970 on E body cars painted in maroon and with 383's. 1000 bucks is ridiculously stupid money just to get a NOS part.

Yeah, it really is. I paid almost twice that for my mirrors. Sometimes perfection is achieved at a high price indeed. I sold my original Chrysler (not a re-pop) duckbill spoiler in perfect condition to a gentleman who was restoring a rare T/A Challenger to 'concourse' condition.

Hi Wayne and welcome.

Since you are offering, I'm looking to refit the factory front disc brakes on my 70 Challenger. The discs are at 1.005 thick and hear .94 is maximum. Is that enough for a typical grind?

Also, what pads do you recommend? I don't race around or anything just want a good pad that won't wear the disc too much? New ones are pretty expensive. :|
