Installing Dash Assembly - Help.

Postby rz9k67 » 20 Dec 2008 22:48

Re-doing a 6pack r/t. I just detailed the entire dash (Pad, instruments, frame, ashtray, etc). Using Redline rebuilt panel, Just Dash pad. Beautiful.

But....

In trying to mount the assembly, two us can't seem to get the screws in that hold the top of the dash frame started. Windshield is in and I just can't seem to get the screws (4 on the top by the defrost vents) in.

Anyone have tool or trick. I can't stand the idea of pulling the windshield. Help!

My first tip would be to not attempt it with the windshield in place. I know it is possible to do it like that but it makes it very tricky as you are finding.

My second tip would be to get your buddy to look through the glass so he can see that the hole is lined up before you try to start the screw.

They are self-tapping sheet metal screws so don't worry about them being cross threaded. Just get them started and force them in. They may well feel tight at first.
