If my seaweed, fir cones and grunnions are all calibrated and correct, I reckon we're in for some harsh weather after christmas in the UK. I reckon (hope ) mid/ late January will see some heavy and protracted snow.

You read it here first."

Heavy snow forecast for Friday 30th January in the UK.

It will just be a bit of sleet Tim.

They always go over the top since they understated the strength of the winds in 1984 or when ever that hurricane was.

I would have settled for just rain or snow. We just had a storm that stared as freezing rain and then turned to snow. About an inch of ice followed by abot 3 inches of snow. I am traying to get the car cleaned off, may take most of the day. I got the door handle to move but the door is still frozen shut. However I am lucky to have electricity. Abot 70% of Henderson has no power.

Thanks Eddie, I am doing fine. Had a couple of days off work and I still have electricity and heat. I am grateful for that especially knowing of the thousands of people that have endured this and lost thier electricty and phone service. I have heard that some areas of western Ky. may be up to 10 days without electricity. The sun is shinning today, so we should be back to normal by the weekend. :D

Haven't seen weather like you guys get in the UK for many many years.

It's going to turn a little cooler here at the weekend according to the BBC.

Another cold snap is heading for the UK, as forecasters warn of the chilliest winter for 13 years.

Icy winds from the continent will be felt in the south and east of the UK in the next few days, followed by a "blast of bitterly cold air" from Russia.

Temperatures in some areas are forecast to plunge from between 4C (39F) and 7C (45F) on Saturday, to between -1C (30F) and -3C (27F) on Sunday night.

BBC weather experts said snow was likely in some parts early next week.

Meanwhile people in Iceland - a country currently in desperate economic trouble - have shipped jumpers and blankets to pensioners in England this week, to keep them warm in the winter.

A container of woolies arrived in the north-east of England after an appeal on an Icelandic radio station. They were handed to local charities in Hull on Thursday.

The campaign started after two Icelanders living in Manchester wrote to the programme, saying they were appalled by the numbers of elderly people dying from cold-related illnesses in England.

Well Tim.
You got your wish at last. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/p ... html/1.stm

How are things your way? Not too bad up here. Only 3 inches. But roads were blocked by stupid people getting stuck.

No problems in the Jeep of course.

yes i know the problem dave, i go and get a worthy vehicle, nice tyres, and then sit in 5 mph traffic, cause nobody else is prepared for the snow, you almost have to go out at 3 in the morning to have any fun in the snow :s024:

It makes me laugh how the news reporters talk about "Arctic conditions" here in their news reports to make it sound more exciting.

OK it was only 24 F this morning going into work (which is on the cold side I admit) but I strongly suspect that it gets a LOT colder than that in the Arctic.

For my next trick, I would like to predict a global economic turn- down. :s024:

Finally got to use 4WD this morning, if only for about 50 yards going up a steep lane. The rest of the time, the A/T tyres had enough bite to deal with it in RWD. I think we were up to about 3 inches when I left home this morning, with snow showers predicted throughout the coming week. If you drive along at 20mph and leave plenty of stopping distance, there's no problem at all. However, I KNOW FOR A FACT that at some point in the week I'll come across a fire engine in the lanes, pulling somebody out of the hedge.

I was stuck on a hill this morning. But only because the traffic had stopped.
A couple of cars had come to a standsill right in the middle of that narrow stone bridge at the bottom of Castle Farm Road? (Tim should know this bridge)
No way around them. They couldn't get up the steep bit to get off the bridge and couldn't reverse the other way due to all the traffic waiting behind.

I managed to get turned around and go a long way around. They were still stuck there as I drove past the end of the bridge on the other side.

Who in their right mind would try to drive up a 1:3 road in snow and ice in a small FWD car?

OK so I have done that a few times in past years but I have always got away with it.

I can understand your frustration Dave. If those people can't cope with poor cinditions or are a bit worried they should'nt go out. Wifey is truly petrified by snow and won't drive anywhere until its absolutely clear. Stay safe and have fun.
