Door is stuck closed..Help !!

Postby nick68 » 16 Oct 2008 12:25

Let me just say that I think this forum is great, And a little bit about my car, I am currently working on a #'s matching 72 340 ralley. It has under gone extensive sheet metal repair and replacement, and I have done all the work myself, with the exception of the engine machine work.

Now that all the sheet metal is done, with the exception of the left rocker panel replacement, still waiting for AMD to make these. I have started the process of hanging the body panels and aligning them. All was going well till I hung the passenger door and closed it. I can open the driver side no problem , but the passenger side is stuck closed. I have the striker on and it latches, but it seems as if something is stuck as I can pull the inside door release all the way back but it won't open.

The outside door handle has been removed. Where or where have i gone wrong ????? thanks in advance.

The linkage from the inside door handle must have come off. You should be able to see the lock working when you pull the handle back.

Dave is right.

The rod that goes from the inner door handle to the latch in the door must be taken out and bent (not straightened....i think) You will know when you take a look at the rod and see how it works.

The rod straightens over time and then does not have enough throw to pop the latch. I had to put more bend back in both of the rods for my challenger to get the doors to pop from the inside.

You should take the latch out and clean it too, since you will have everything detached from it.

Well that seems to have been the problem. What I was able to do was push down on the outside door release rod and get the door open.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
