70 challenger taillight bezels?

Postby 440forPOWER » 22 Sep 2008 17:15

Hello, does anyone restore these bezels? Or has anyone seen the PG classic repos? I would love to have the originals redone but a good quality rpo would be ok too. Thanks in advance

The PG Classic ones are actually OK. Better than many of the other repro parts you see. I have a set on my car.
I hear that the chrome is thin so don't go using chrome polish on them. Just clean with damp soft cloth.

You can get the originals restored but I understand it is not easy or cheap and very much depends on how bad your originals are.

i ran on to the same problem, i could not find bezels, way back in 1995, so the process began and i did some repair and painted them black, and that one part made my decision to black everything out, because replacement was way to expensive, i know you cant do that ,but just how much are they? and are they any good ? :s008:

They are $425 plus shipping so they are not cheap but they do look very good. I am happy with mine.

There is guy who machines them from aerospace billet alloy, copper nickel chrome, correct black matte finish, all 3 surrounds available and ready to use out of the box. Aprox 850.00 he also makes the side marker bezels from the same billets.

Yep, David Seward makes him himself. (1-772-979-1674)He restored a 70 T/A to concourse condition and couldnt find any N.O.S. at a reasonable price, and he is a machinist by trade so he whittled em out of alloy, chromed them, painted them the correct colour and they are very nice. . I think I paid a little over a thousand bucks for all three tail lens bezels and both side marker bezels at the rear, so for 5 pieces it was a 1000.00 give or take a few bucks. Now remember this was in 1999/2000 so they may have gone up or even come down depending on how many orders he takes. They are show quality. But the PG classics are very nice too and may save someone a few bucks.

Wow, these items are expensive. Think I'll put a coat of wax on my originals right away. :s008:

A guy over here fitted some (1970 only) trunk lid and quarter panel extensions made that way in the US. He wouldn't tell me who made them but my guess is it could have been this David Seward. He did say they cost a small fortune.

The reproduction trunk trim pieces available from Year One and PG Classics are very poor quality and only look good from a distance. They are also very expensive. They are slightly too short (large gap where they join) and are made of a very soft material. I think they are about $450 the set and probably cost less than $1 to make.

Yeah, those reproductions are both expensive and a pain in some instances as Dave described. Thats why if you have original parts you should try and keep them as nice as you can for as long as you can.(Like Jon&Danny) I thought about Re-Chroming my originals but that was even MORE expensive than the DS re-pops I bought! They would have to be sanded carefully then each small 'pit' silver soldered, then copper plated then sanded again then nickel plate then chrome, I think is the procedure, either way, not cheap if you want show quality. I am very "prickey" when it comes to the body.
