1970 R/T 440 six pack convertible 4-speed consider selling

I have a 70 440-6 pack convertible with pistol 4-speed. I've owned it since 1974 and it is original and complete. I would consider it in rough condition as it has been sitting outside under a tarp for past 30 years. It was originally plum purple but I painted black around 1976 in high school shop class. Anyway I'm thinking about selling it and was wondering about the best approach and what it should bring.

Mine is no way in that condition and the only other difference(besides color and condition) is the hood. I don't have the shaker style but the two nozzle looking pin type.

In order to help you decide on a value we would need more info. As you know this car could potentially be pretty valuable. Does the car still have the original motor and tranny? Does the car have any rust or body damage issues? What kind if any documentation do you have for the car [ie.fender tag, build sheet, original window sticker]? These are all factors in the value of the car.

Bob thanks for your response. Yes Im almost certain it is original body, motor, tranny, rear end, dash. It also has rust and rag top is a rag but car is not wrecked. I will get #'s this week end and dig out title? I don'thave any build sheet or sticker.

I take it the #'s needed are from the dash, door, fender and block?

I'm going to try my best to get the #'s and pics this weekend. I had to move the car from my sisters about 10 years ago & its still sitting on the trailer I used to move it. But its behind some old farm equip so i have to hitch the tractor and move some junk to get at it and to pull out from behind barn.

Weather permitting hoping saturday.

Ok I got the R/T out late tonight. It looks really rough too much of a project for me.
Even though its dark out I managed a few pictures. How do you load/attach for veiwing?
The numbers on door were painted over (from me changing it to black) and starting to peel away so I couldn't read them at night and probally not even in daylight.

The #'s on the dash plate located drivers side corner top are
JS27VOB204087

Its to late tonight as it was quite a job just getting the trailer hitched up so I didnt' try to open hood yet. Tomorow I give it a go.

Oh yea I didn't understand from reading the FAQ how to put the pitcures up.

Hello Woolwolf,
Congatulation on getting your car, it must stir up some memories. I own a 70 purple convertible Challenger that I have owned since 1982. It sat dormant for 20 years before I restored her.

The way to load a picture is at the bottom of your reply post. click on the browse tab and then locate the file that you stored your pics. then select the pictures that you want and click open. Make sure that the file size does not exceed the limit. When you prewiew the post the picture should load however it will preview first. If everything looks good then hit the submit tab and the picture will then appear at the end of your post.

I have added a picture of my car to make sure I was telling you the correct way to post a picture.

Post a picture of the fender tag or list the option codes. We will be able to decipher them for you. There are a lot of very knowledgeable guys on this site.

Look for the build sheets. They are usually behind the springs on the rear seat back and behind the plastic panels on the bucket seat backs. there are other locations so check out Barry Washington's web site.

I know these are just car's but, they're worth a hell of a lot more now, then they were when we were kid's. Just something to think about.

I don't understand the scammer stuff as Someone misspelled the 2nd to last letter to my E-mail address/account and this after they had already e-mailed me twice. Oh well what I've provided is totally valid.

Right now I'm leaning toward Patrich's advice as still not sure what its worth and looking for a local shop to price the sheet metal work. I'm not worried about the engine, tranny, or rear end as I'm comfortable that their condition should be realatively easy fix up based on their condition when parked way back. But I'm lost when it comes to the body, paint ,or interior stuff and wil need to have that done if I decide to keep it.

Well just wanted to update and clear the scammer talk. Basically still not sure what to do at this point.

It needs going right through by the look of it. Including all the electrical gear.
You need to be either familiar with doing this stuff or very keen to learn. But it will take a large financial and work commitment because either way it is a big project and the car is only a good investment for your money and time if you do it right.

Some of the guys here could turn this car around in a year. Mine has taken me three years since the last time I decided to "Tidy it up".

Update I have interest in selling this car and was asked for more pic.s so here they are. I didn't want to hurt the hood as hinges seem stuck so I'll work it off and take engine tomorrow. I did jack it up and manage to get the #' from the engine block and tranny.

I hope this doesn't sound too negative, but why was this car so neglected for so long? Even from new, it was a rare and rather expensive car. Surely it could have been at least put on blocks and wrapped up better. Even 10 years ago when interest in these cars was reviving. Also wondering why it was painted black after only 6 years from new - was it really neglected right from new? If you bought it in 74, the paint must have been really trashed by the first owner. Rather sad really, but it was the fate of many of the rare cars we see surfacing now, that back in the 70's were "just another car". But its no different to say, a today's model Hemi Challenger being treated like a bucket for a few years, and then left out in a paddock for 30 years.

Just my 2cents worth anyway.
