Autoparts Dealers Re shipping

Postby RedRaven » 09 Jul 2008 20:16

Hey guys,
What do we think of these fellas....I know Dave is a bit weary of some of the suppliers because of the guage of metal used. But they look decent enough.

Hear is a random example.

There are only two or maybe three people making the panels.
Jims is not one of them. They are just a supplier.

I think Jims is the one we avoid because of discrepancies with the price advertised and the price they actually charge you?

Is that right guys?

Is there really a big difference in price Dave, some tidy pieces there that I could do with, I reckon there are skins and patches that I could afford instead of a hole 4 X 1/4 replacement. Just under the rear windscreen needs to be replaced I think they do that also.

Actually, if my memory is correct, we used to steer well away from Jim's because they started the trend of having huge S&H fees, taking several weeks to ship, and having poor customer service.
But I guess those twists of fate are available from other suppliers as well now...

What they are selling looks like Goodmark parts, there's a new kid on the block called Auto Metal Direct which also manufactures replacement sheetmetal.
Just about every Mopar parts dealer (including Mopar themselves for the 'Authentic Restoration' parts) sells these.

Check out their catalog : http://www.goodmarkindustries.com/www/X ... _Mopar.pdf

and

(I think they have the deck filler you want : http://www.autometaldirect.com/listing. ... pageid=119 )
and buy from whomever you fancy.

I have heard about Jims through various sites. I have never dealt with them. I have to say that my findings on them reflect what Fabian has stated. Beware!

What bothers me is they won't quote shipping thus the final price of the purchase. You give them your credit card number and wait to see what it cost on your next statement. :s001:

I just bought a set of slicks for a friend at Jeg's (that's for Santa Pod  ). As would be expected, the shipping fee is outrageous, but at least, I saw it before I gave my card number....

From what I see many dealers have the part sent directly from their suppliers. They don't know what will be charged either until that particular order is placed. YO will quote shipping but pads a bit to cover IMO.

Hi ya mates
Amazed about the response to Jims Auto Parts. Been using them for about 15 years on and off and pretty happy with the results. Had to wait 8 weeks for a set of shocks once, but its usually on my door in 4 to 5 days.
Shame cos they got really good deal on a pair of chrome bumpers on the web site. Now you've put me off. What about Challenger Classics, do they still exist?

I bought a couple of repop Challenger script front fender emblems from Laysons and they didn't fit the holes in the stock fenders. Tried to return 'em and they wouldn't take 'em..... as for Layson's arrest, sooner or later, kharma will pay you a visit!
