1970 Challenger Center Cap Lugs

Postby cv70chall » 13 Jun 2008 13:09

I've recently acquired a good set of Rallye Rims for my "almost done and ready to leave the body shop" Challenger and noticed that several of the lugs that hold the center caps to the rims are missing- or have been replaced with different style lugs. (I guess it does not really matter- as you don't see them)
However- in the spirit of getting this car as original as I can- I want to know if there is an idential "substitute" for the lugs.
There is a guy selling NOS parts at $4.00 a lug- which seems a bit high.
Any ideas? Recommendations?

The tire shops I frequented years back were pretty brutal, striping the threads on on most of them. I tapped them 1/4-20 starting with a tapered tap to start the threads straight then to get the full depth used a bottoming tap. 1/4-20x3/4" long bolts with a lock washer will then fit.

You want something with a pretty flat head so they don't protude out and stop your wheel mounting correctly.
